Hammerhead is a deep ledge reef at 60 feet named for the shark sightings that have made it one of FKDC's more talked-about sites. Shark activity is not guaranteed but the ledge structure, resident marine life, and depth make it a rewarding dive whether the big visitors show up or not.
About Hammerhead
The name sets an expectation — and FKDC will be the first to tell you it isn't a promise. Shark activity at Hammerhead is real, it's documented, and it's the reason divers keep requesting this site. Hammerheads, Bull Sharks, and Reef Sharks have all been spotted along the ledge. But sharks move on their own schedule, and no dive operator controls what shows up on any given day.
What is guaranteed is the ledge itself. Hammerhead sits at 60 feet — deep enough to reward divers who've put in the time to get comfortable at depth, shallow enough to give you a decent bottom time to actually explore it. The structure runs as a defined reef ledge with overhangs, crevices, and the kind of layered marine habitat that supports strong fish populations regardless of what's cruising the blue water above.
When the sharks don't show, the rest of the site more than earns the trip offshore. Grouper hold along the ledge base. Moray Eels work the crevices. Barracuda hang mid-water. The coral coverage at this depth tends to be denser and less disturbed than shallower sites that see heavier traffic. And on the days when a Hammerhead does come through — and it happens more often than the disclaimer might suggest — it's the kind of sighting that stays with a diver for a long time.
